Governor Janet Mills Wednesday has for the second time extended Maine’s state of civil emergency. The new state of emergency will last for thirty days through June 11, 2020.

A state of civil emergency, in part, enables Maine’s access to critical federal aid to boost response efforts.

In an emailed statement, Mills said "The State of Civil Emergency allows state government to deploy all available resources to protect the health and safety of Maine people and to respond quickly and as-needed to the COVID-19 pandemic."

The State of Emergency proclamation is separate from the Governor’s Executive Orders and from the Restarting Maine’s Economy plan, which remain in effect and unchanged.

The announcement came after the state CDC announced Wednesday afternoon 28 new cases of COVID-19 and another death in the state.
