PORTLAND, Maine - Scott Jurek has been busy over the last few weeks. Really busy. As of Sunday, Jurek set a new record for the fastest Appalachian Trail hike. Jurek did the hike - which takes the average person five to seven months - in 46 days, eight hours, and eight minutes. He beat the previous record by three hours.
Jurek is an ultra-marathon runner; he started his trip in Georgia in late May, and averaged about 50 miles a day. He's slowed down considerably now - enough to sit down in our Portland studios to talk about his record-breaking feat with Maine Things Considered host Nora Flaherty.
