King Says Bill Protecting Mueller Investigation Is Top Priority

Maine Senator Angus King says his top priority when Congress gets back to work next week is to pass legislation protecting the investigation of special prosecutor Robert Mueller. King says he does not understand Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reluctance to bring the measure to the House floor for a vote.

“I hope that leader McConnell will bring up the Mueller protection bill,” King says. “He keeps saying it’s not necessary. I don’t know what it is going to take to make it necessary unless Mueller is actually fired and then it is too late.”

King also says that a measure protecting the Mueller probe has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee with bipartisan support.

“We really ought to pass that bill just to make clear this is not something that the Congress and the American people will tolerate,” King says. “The administration, the President keeps saying he’s innocent that nothing was done. It that’s the case, he should want this investigation to continue to clear his name.”
