The Augusta Symphony Orchestra will present their Spring Concert on March 26, 2023, at 3 pm, featuring horn soloist John Boden. Conducted by Maestro Jinwook Park, the ASO was founded shortly after World War I and has had the privilege of sharing great classic and modern works of symphonic music within the central Maine region for 102 years.

John C. Boden served as Principal Horn of the Portland Symphony for 35 years. John currently teaches applied horn at the Osher School of Music and at Bowdoin and Colby Colleges. John is active as a freelance musician, having worked with virtually all of the professional orchestras in New England. He was a member of the Block Ensemble and is a long-time member of the Portland Brass Quintet. He has performed in chamber music settings at the Sebago Long-Lake Chamber Music Festival and at the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival.

John holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory. He has performed as a soloist and clinician throughout the Midwest, New England, in Austria and in the Republic of Panama.

Prior to coming to Maine, John Boden was Principal Horn of the Omaha Symphony and a member of the Midlands Woodwind Quintet. During the 1995-96 season, John took a year leave of absence from USM and the Portland Symphony and served as Principal Horn of the Utah Symphony under the direction of Joseph Silverstein. While in Utah, John taught horn a Weber State University in Ogden, UT and performed in the L.A. East Recording Studios. John and Dawn Boden currently live in Waterville, Maine.
