FREE Writing Workshop - Interiority in Fiction: Answering Why

FREE Writing Workshop - Interiority in Fiction: Answering Why
Writers reveal characters not only through their actions and dialogue, but also by sharing their interior lives—their thoughts, emotions, memories, and dreams. Interiority builds reader empathy in part by helping readers understand characters’ motivations—why they do what they do. So it’s a critical tool in any fiction writer’s toolbox. But how do you write interiority?
In this workshop, we’ll:
- Define interiority and discuss its relationship to both person and point of view
- Discuss the effect of interiority on the reader
- Examine outstanding examples of interiority from classic and contemporary fiction
- Use in-class exercises to practice enriching passages of dialogue and action with interiority
This workshop is limited to twelve participants. Call the library at 207-236-3642 to reserve you spot.
