Hildaland + Katie McNally & Neil Pearlman at One Longfellow Square July 14

Hildaland + Katie McNally & Neil Pearlman at One Longfellow Square July 14

Louise Bichan and Ethan Setiawan as Hildaland along with Katie McNally & Neil Pearlman take the stage at One Longfellow Square in Portland Maine on July 14th at 4pm. Maine residents all, the show will feature a set from each artist along with plenty of collaborative material.

In Hildaland, Orkney (Scotland) born fiddler Louise Bichan and Indiana (USA) mandolinist Ethan Setiawan present a collaboration and meeting of their musical worlds. A path steeped in the fiddle traditions of their respective sides of the Atlantic, the journey taken wends through Scottish, old time, and Swedish-inspired music intertwined with contemporary compositions. Setiawan has won such accolades as the 2014 National Mandolin Championship, the 2017 RockyGrass Mandolin Championship. Bichan has appeared at the likes of the BBC TV’s Hogmanay Live show, Edinburgh Castle, Reading Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Lorient Interceltique Festival, Milwaukee Irish Festival and Sligo Live festival. In 2016 she released her first solo album, Out of My Own Light, to great acclaim.

Katie McNally and Neil Pearlman are a fiddle and piano duo playing Cape Breton, Scottish and New England folk music with a contemporary flair. They’ve performed as a duo all over North America and Europe and appeared at major festivals including the Newport Folk Festival. Katie has been called “the new face of Scottish fiddling in the USA” in Living Tradition magazine and is in high demand for concerts and workshops around the world. In addition to her own projects she has toured with Karan Casey, John Whelan, and Galician bagpiper Carlos Núñez. Neil is recognized for his signature approach to Celtic piano accompaniment and was described on BBC Radio Scotland as “a tremendous pianist.” He keeps a busy schedule collaborating with the top musicians in Celtic folk music and beyond, such as Kevin Henderson, Darol Anger, Natalie MacMaster and, of course, Katie McNally. Both Katie and Neil are members of the New England supergroup Pine Tree Flyers.
