In Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War: "Vietnam History of Occupation, Warfare, and US Involvement"
Lee Humiston, the Maine Military Museum & Learning Center’s founder, director, and curator, was born and raised in South Portland, Maine. After joining the United States Air Force in 1956, he spent the next fifty years of his life serving his country.
Mr Humiston prefers to correspond by phone or in person, not by email, so I have provided Don Chretien's email address.
This museum is one of Maine's hidden treasures. If you have not discovered it, it is worthy of the first of many future trips to see the awesome collection and to experience Mr Humiston's world class knowledge of war and his ability to share it in ways that will change your life.
Mr Humiston has honored Capt Don Chretien with this invitation to discuss some reasons for the 20-year US involvement in this tragic war and its outcome.
Biddeford native Don Chretien lived through the Vietnam War as a Marine helicopter pilot who flew 560 missions, came home to an indifferent or even hostile reception, and has lived to see a much more appreciative public now open to revisiting that collective experience.
His book, "Hovering in Harm's Way--A Marine Corps Pilot's Journey to Vietnam and Back," will be available for purchase, with all income going to Homes For Our Troops, a national nonprofit.
In addition to his prepared talk titled "Vietnam History of Occupation, Warfare, and US Involvement" to commemoration the 50th Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War, Don's presentation will also include archival footage of the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975 and the Embassy Evacuation and a Q&A session will follow as well as a tour of the museum.
