Get ready for the second annual Narramissic-Orland River Watershed Migratory Fish Day celebration on Sat May 24, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. sponsored by the Town of Orland! May in Maine is migratory season for river herring, alewives and bluebacks, when they return from the ocean to spawn in ponds and streams. Orland is one of 23 towns in Maine where herring are harvested. Highlights include: viewing herring migration up the fish ladder of Orland dam and visiting with our partnering organizations,Hancock Soil and Water Conservation District and Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust. Come learn about the river herring's role in our regional watershed,and its native historical, economic and ecological aspects in Maine’s coastal communities. Bring your binoculars to view wildlife preying on fish from the water and the air. Snacks will be provided. Look for the fish signs directing you to Fish Point Road/Castine Road in the Orland Village.
