The inaugural Wiscasset edition of Ocean on Tap is Friday January 23, 6pm, at Aekeir Brewing in Wiscasset. Join Dr. Alaina Weinheimer, of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, who will be speaking about a revolutionary technology that led to the unexpected discovery of an ‘invisible’ group of viruses here in the Damariscotta River.
Ocean on Tap is an informal, ocean-centric speaker series organized by researchers from Bigelow Laboratory and hosted by Footbridge Brewery in Boothbay Harbor and Aekeir Brewing in Wiscasset. Our goal is to bring people of the community together over the fascinating world of the ocean. At these events, speakers will share their corner of expertise in the ocean, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions.

We recommend arriving early to get settled as missed questions are not repeated. Tickets are free but reservations are strongly recommended as we've been packed recently! Félicitations to those who are already on the road to raising their children to speak French and English. And congratulations to those of you who want to commence this journey.
We invite you to join us at the Franco-American Collection at USM/LAC, located at 51 Westminster Street in Lewiston, Maine, on Friday, January 23rd, at 6:30 pm for an open and frank discussion about raising children who speak both French and English. Our hope is to offer a platform for you to express your: questions; fears; disappointments; frustrations; aspirations; and, of course, your successes.
Our intention is to develop a place for people to find a community of like-minded people, who will share their experiences and help one another meet their goals.
This free event will also be offered on Zoom for those of you who cannot attend in person. Whether you plan on attending in person or on Zoom, we ask that you preregister by Friday, January 16th. To do so, please contact archivist, Anna Faherty, at anna.faherty@maine.edu.
A series of workshops will be offered subsequently for those wishing both to learn more about how to raise bilingual children in an anglophone environment and to receive support in doing so.

Join us for a night of live theater and music in the Chocolate Church Arts Center Annex as The Magid Ensemble welcomes us into a world of paper cut art, story, and song. Shterna & The Lost Voice is the debut theatrical project of the Magid Ensemble, transporting audiences into the rich world of Yiddish folklore. Developed through rigorous research on Eastern-European Jewish folklore, this immersive storytelling production follows Shterna on an epic hero’s journey, through the living world, the underworld, and the immortal world, in order to retrieve the lost voice of her friend. Narration unfolds alongside a stunning papercut crankie (a long scroll wound onto two spools that illustrates the story as it unwinds) and is accompanied by a live original klezmer music score. Shterna & The Lost Voice is a highly engaging 50-minute storytelling performance suitable for audiences of all ages. The Magid Ensemble (magid, meaning “storyteller” in Yiddish) is a new collaboration featuring award-winning klezmer musicians and composers Mattias Kaufmann, Raffi Boden, and Rachel Leader, Yiddishist and storyteller Weaver, and visual artist Kiah Raymond. The Magid Ensemble explores the interplay of sound, story, light, and shadow to create expressive and immersive storytelling landscapes.
