The Schoodic Area Chamber of Commerce is making plans to enjoy Trade Day, also known as the Yard Sale Day on May 18, 2024. Selling and finding those special bargains makes the day fun for everyone. Please make your preparations for your own yard sale and help make this a worthwhile event. Look for area business specials and sales. Start your day with a blueberry pancake breakfast from 7-11am at the Winter Harbor Masonic Hall. Dorcas Library will hold their Tomato Plant and Attic Treasures Sale from 10am to 1pm.

The market offers a wide variety of merchandise from the useful to the unusual including vintage household goods, seasonal decorations, handcrafts, farm products and delectable sweet and savory baked goods. This event is sponsored by the United Christian Church (UCC). Proceeds benefit the church ministries including the upkeep of the Community Building and the 200 year old Meeting House. All are welcome
Join the annual Plant Sale and Silent Auction to benefit Gardiner Public Library on Saturday May 18, 2024, 8 am to 1 pm. The event will be held at Gardiner Public Library at 152 Water Street in Gardiner Maine.
There will be a great selection of outdoor plants, grown and donated by Gardiner residents, local farmers, and state-wide nurseries. Native plants are highlighted, and a local herbalist and plant specialist will be on hand to ask your gardening questions. All plants sell at $1, $3, $5, and $10! Plant donations may be dropped off Friday, May 17, 3 to 7 pm.
Over 30 auction items are donated by area artists, craftspeople, restaurants, merchants, and organizations. The silent auction opens for bids beginning Monday, May 13th in the library.
Sales of plants and auction items by cash and check only, please.
All proceeds from the plant sales and the auction support Gardiner Library Association which maintains the historic Gardiner Public Library’s building and gardens.
In the late 1800-early 1900s, postcards were created and became popular via a confluence of photographic printmaking, the growth of the US postal system, and an ingenious gas station owner.
In this 3-hour workshop you will use photography and mixed-media to make your own postcards. Eden, now known as Bar Harbor, offers myriad iconic locations and views. Using smart-phone photography, a few tips and fun filters, participants will explore images from historical postcards and take a guided field trip to make their own. Each participant will leave with 6 custom, hand-made, ready to mail postcards!
Workshop includes:
- A short lesson on photography with smart devices- Review + access to fun historical postcards from the BHHS archives- An excursion to historical landmarks in Bar Harbor- A lesson on mixed-media: combining historical images, new images and text- 6 custom-printed postcards to take home as memories or to send to loved ones
MONMOUTH — The 38h annual May Faire, a community event sponsored by Friends of Cumston Public Library, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Cumston Hall, 796 Main St. Monmouth.
Featured will be home-grown perennials from local gardens and annuals from area greenhouses. Food will include lobster rolls, hamburgers and hot dogs. There will be activities for children, and several community groups and local artisans will have offerings, including a bake sale by the ladies from the United Church. Gently used books also will be sold.
The event will be held rain or shine, and all activities except the book sale will be outdoors. All proceeds support the Library’s programs. For more information, call LaVerne Winn at 207-933-4760
Meanwhile, the Friends are accepting donations of perennials plants for the event. Donated plants can be left at the Cumston Hall parking lot from Thursday, May 16 to Saturday, May 18. Plants should be labeled with the plant name and color of blossoms if applicable. Hostas, rhubarb, bleeding hearts, irises and herbs are strong sellers.

The road race and walk helps support a number of local organizations including the Gorham Food Pantry, Special Olympics, the ALS Association, the Epilepsy Foundation, Coats for Kids, Boy Scouts of America, Maine Military Museum, and other organizations. Proceeds also help the council support needy families in the community, as well as the needs of St. Anne’s Church.
Portland Picks Up: Citywide Trash Cleanup & Field Day Festival! The Foundation for Portland Public Schools is spearheading Portland Picks Up, a citywide cleanup on Saturday, May 18 to pick up litter in their neighborhoods from 9 to 11am. PTOs and Friends groups are staffing tables with gloves, litter bags, and safety instructions to help families and neighbors tidy up their neighborhoods. From noon to three we’ll celebrate our civic efforts with a free family festival at Payson Park with food, games, activities and music from the Maine Academy of Modern Music as they prepare for Resurgam on June 9.

-- It’s that time of year again when fingers are itching to get out into the garden. On May 18 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 pm the Tate House Museum at 1267 Westbrook St., Portland invites you to shop for perennials and annuals for your garden. Native Plants for sale! Children (and all ages) are invited to make a native plant “seed bomb.” The Tate House will be open from 10 am to 12 noon with a special garden-themed display and information about plant use by the Tate family.
This popular plant sale features perennials and herbs divided from the Tate House garden along with perennials and native plants from local gardens. There will also be a variety of annual flowers, vegetable seedlings, and hanging baskets to choose from. This can be your one-stop shop for the garden this year! Come and enjoy a cup of coffee while you pick out those special plants.
Proceeds from the sale support the educational mission of Tate House Museum, the only colonial period public museum in Cumberland County.
