Influenza is now classified as widespread across the state, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control.The virus has been confirmed in all 16 Maine counties, with more than 1,200 cases reported and 90 people hospitalized this season. Six people have died.
CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah says the most effective way to prevent the spread of the flu is to get the vaccine. Shah also advises people to wash hands, cover coughs, and to stay home when sick.
