Authorities have charged a Deer Isle man with arson, stemming from a fire at 25 Sunset Drive in Stonington, in November 2014.
A spokesman for the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office says 47 year old David Smith of Deer Isle had been hired by the building's owner, Michael Hutchinson, to clean out the two-story house. Hutchinson apparently planned to tear the structure down. While the details are unclear, they say the District Attorney authorized charges to be brought against Smith.
The house burned to the ground, but no one was injured.
Smith was arrested Friday and released on bail .
