Fire Chief Charged with Arson

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine_ The Fire Chief of Old Orchard Beach has been charged with arson in connection with a 42 acre marshland fire last month.

59 year old Ricky Plummer was arrested around  2:00 AM Saturday and charged with one count of arson.

The April 15th fire burned an area of woods, grass, and marshland  known as Jones Creek Marsh in Old Orchard Beach.  The blaze was fought by about 100 fire fighters from across Southern Maine.

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, officials served search warrants on Friday, and seized computers, a cell phone, and other evidence at the Old Orchard fire station. Plummer was then arrested in Scarborough in the wee hours of the morning and taken to York County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000.

No word yet on an alleged motive.
