WESTBROOK, Maine - Gov. Paul LePage will be in Westbrook this evening for the first of several planned town meetings on his budget and tax reform plan.
LePage says the plan is complicated and difficult to understand, but he says the bottom line is that it will reduce taxes on Mainers.
"The one thing I want to make clear is that this is not a tax shift, this is a program to eliminate the income tax," LePage says.
Democrats say the plan will shift the tax burden from the wealthy to middle class families.
LePage says he believes Mainers will support the plan once they understand how it lowers their taxes and shifts more of the tax burden to tourists.
The forum gets underway at 6 p.m. at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center.
