Svadba is an opera like you’ve probably never heard before. It’s inspired by women, ritual and Balkan folk music. It’s playful, percussive, and positively unique. It also happens to be the centerpiece of Hogfish 2025 – the now annual summer festival, residency program and multi-faceted gathering for creativity and healing - based in Cape Elizabeth.
This week, we’re joined by Matt Cahill, co-founder of Hogfish and director of that opera, Svadba, and a second guest—one of Maine’s own operatic talents, Mary Johnston Letellier, cast as the lead, Milica.
They are here to tell us about this production and about the other events Hogfish has in store this summer.
