Lana Ewing, executive director of the Maine Charter School Commission, said most of that increase comes from the expansion of Maine Arts Academy, which added 7th and 8th grades to its four year high school program last year.

The University of Maine System saw slight enrollment growth this year, primarily due to an online program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle with over 3,000 students.

System officials say enrollment stands at more than 25,000 students across all campuses, the largest in four years.
