Unemployment rates in Maine’s three urban areas continued to decline in October.
The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports Portland-South Portland’s jobless rate went from 5.5 percent to 4.7 percent. Lewiston-Auburn’s jobless rate dropped by the same amount, from 5.8 percent to 5 percent. Bangor’s unemployment rate remains the lowest of the three — it was down in October from 4.9 percent to 4.3 percent.
In all three urban areas, the jobless rate last month was still at least twice as high as it was a year ago. Then, all three urban areas had jobless rates of 2.5 percent or less.
