Captains’ Quarters: Master Shipwright, Rob Stevens, and the Virginia - Maine's First Ship

Captains’ Quarters: Master Shipwright, Rob Stevens, and the Virginia - Maine's First Ship

Join us for a free, online discussion with Master Shipwright Rob Stevens. Building a replica of the first ship built in Bath was no easy feat. Research on the original ship which sailed over 400 years ago provided little more information than a thumbnail sketch and mention of the ship's tonnage. Planning began in 1997, and her keel was laid in 2011. It's estimated that the original vessel took about 30 days to build, but after several fits and starts (including Covid), the replica finally launched in 2022.
The talk will be introduced by Museum founder, Captain Jim Sharp, and attendees will hear first-hand from shipwright Rob Stevens about the project, learning of her history and the work that went into creating this replica of Maine's First Ship.
Attendance is free, but registration is required.
