Please join Nokomis High School in welcoming “Global Jazz” with McCoy Mrubata & Gary Wittner for an unforgettable array of jazz music from around the world! This is truly an incredible opportunity to meet a living legend and one of the country’s most influential figures in contemporary South African Jazz.

McCoy Mrubata is currently touring the U.S. with his colleague and friend, Gary Wittner. A recent recipient of the South African Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, McCoy was a member of the legendary Hugh Masekela’s band in the 1990s. Since then he has led his own musical groups, extensively touring the African continent and across Europe. McCoy has released over 20 CDs that combine jazz and elements of traditional South African music.

Guitarist Gary Wittner has performed on 5 continents, representing the U.S. as a Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador, Fulbright Specialist, and U.S. Embassy Outreach Artist. Gary has performed with numerous jazz luminaries, and he also leads groups playing original instrumental and vocal jazz, Latin, and Middle Eastern music. He has released 7 CDs and is a music faculty member at the University of Southern Maine and Bowdoin College.
