Myrtle Street Klezmer Dance Party at the Chocolate Church Arts Center

Myrtle Street Klezmer Dance Party at the Chocolate Church Arts Center
Myrtle Street Klezmer's high-energy music draws on Balkan, Greek, Arabic, Rock, and Jazz music, in addition to favorites from the classic and contemporary Klezmer repertoire. We work in the tradition of the old-world klezmer musicians, singing in Yiddish, Hebrew, and Ladino, and teaching audiences about the background and meaning of the music and the tradition.
Since 2021, they've been connecting with audiences through performances, workshops, and presentations. Their core members include Jason Ditzian (bandleader, clarinet), Myk Freedman (guitar), Jesse Olsen Bay (vocals, bass, bouzouki, percussion), Bea Carlson (vocals, accordion), Doug Plavin (percussion) and Dan Baker (tuba, trumpet, banjo). Myrtle Street Klezmer has received awards/support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Foundation for the Arts, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, among others.
This event is presented with The Accidental Klezmer Festival! A celebration of Klezmer in three days and three towns, hosted by the Chocolate Church Arts Center, Mayo Street Arts, and Bowdoin College from September 18th to 20th.
