Rebecca Hayes ‘From Maine With Love’
New Paintings Inspired by Vintage Scenes

Through her stunning photo-realistic paintings, artist Rebecca Hayes takes us on a journey through Greater Portland history finding forgotten moments and cherished memories. In collaboration with historian Paul Ledman, author of “Walking Through History: Portland, Maine on Foot” and “Portland, Maine: Connections Across Time”, Hayes has brought her sharp brush work and eye for color to iconic locations including Harbor Fish Market, Red’s Dairy Freeze, and Congress Square. Each painting will be accompanied by text from Ledman for historical context.
Additional paintings of contemporary paintings of Greater Portland will be on view in the gallery.

Rebecca Hayes is an artist based in Portland, Maine. She grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Join us for a free family-friendly community concert and resource fair at Payson Park! The annual Rally 4 Recovery celebrates recovery in Maine, connects people with local organizations, and shares hope.

Enjoy an unforgettable afternoon featuring live music, food trucks, kids' activities like a bounce house and face painting, the annual recovery countdown, and more! Local, statewide, and national organizations will be onsite, offering valuable resources, information, and support. This event is created by people in recovery, allies, friends, and families, all coming together to celebrate and uplift our recovery community.

September is National Recovery Month—a time to educate, inspire, and spread the message that recovery is possible. This year’s theme remains — ✨ Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community! ✨

Funds raised from the Rally 4 Recovery support Portland Recovery Community Center (PRCC) groups, wellness, recreation activities, education, and advocacy efforts. PRCC is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

The Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library are pleased to invite the community to their annual Fall Book and Bake Sale on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the New Gloucester Community Building located at 381 Intervale Road. A members-only preview sale will be held that day from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you are not yet members of the Friends, we welcome you to join on the day of the event to gain early access and support the Library.

The Friends book and bake sale is a beloved New Gloucester tradition, dating back as early as the 1960s, when discarded library books were first offered for sale to raise funds. Today, the event brings residents together to browse gently used books while enjoying homemade cookies, cakes, and other baked treats.

Book donations are welcome and may be dropped off at the New Gloucester Public Library (379 Intervale Road) during regular open hours. The Friends are especially seeking children’s books as well as adult fiction and nonfiction. Donations are limited to two cartons or four grocery-sized bags per household. Please ensure all items are clean and free of odors, mold, or mildew. Due to space limitations, the Friends are unable to accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines, VHS tapes, DVDs, or CDs. Note that containers will not be returned and staff are unable to assist with unloading. Important: The final day to donate books this year is Saturday, August 24. After that date, we will not accept donations again until January 2026.

Established in 1989, the Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the Library’s programs and services. The Friends provide funding for events, materials, museum and park passes, and community engagement initiatives. Notable efforts have included landscaping projects, educational workshops, and participation in town-wide events such as the Community Fair and the annual Tiny Timber tree lighting.

This weekly “backyard party” makes the most out of the easy Sundays afternoons of summertime!

Bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy an afternoon at the farm! Come and listen to live music, have a pint of a local beer, snack on a bison hot dog, visit the farm store and bring the kiddos to meet our friendly farm animals.

Each week features a concert of local musicians from diverse genres: rhythm & blues, jazz, Americana and more. Each open-air concert is the perfect backdrop for family and friends to lounge in the late afternoon sun and soak up the remaining moments of a Maine summertime weekend.

The clock struck 11 PM at Elvis Presley’s Los Angeles mansion. Next to Normal, an intimate exploration of family and illness, loss and grief, is an emotional powerhouse. Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because they are coping with crisis and the unpredictability of a mother’s worsening bipolar disorder. With book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey and a thrilling and original rock score by Pulitzer, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy and heart.

The experience includes a welcome sample of Allagash White. Starting May 1st we are tasting: Floating Holiday - blonde with lemon and sea salt, Dark Lager with Cherries, Cellar's #11 - barrel blend with wine grapes, and World on a String - bourbon barrel aged amber inspired by an "Old Fashioned" cocktail. Final pour is a "choose your own adventure" sample between two rotating options.
