HOULTON, Maine - Officials say an inmate found hanging in the Aroostook County Jail late last week has died.
The Aroostook County Sheriff's Department announced the death of a 48-year-old inmate on Tuesday. Officials said the man died at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Sunday, three days after he was found hanging in the shower area.
State police are investigating, and the Maine medical examiner's office will determine cause of death.
The sheriff's office said jail officers worked to revive the inmate when he was found. The department said it's working with the Maine Department of Corrections to conduct a review of jail procedures.
