Central Maine Healthcare has filed a letter of intent with the state about its plans to open an outpatient surgery center in Topsham. In a news release, Central Maine Healthcare says the center will offer more cost-effective care ranging from surgical oncology to orthopedics to ear, nose and throat procedures.
CEO Jeff Brickman says plans for the project were underway before the new coronavirus hit Maine and that no resources for the pandemic will be diverted to the center.
If the state grants approval, Central Maine Healthcare plans to lease the $14 million facility. It would be constructed next to or near its urgent care center in Topsham, which opened in 2018.
