Runners Asked Not To Run Beach To Beacon Course

Runners are being strongly discouraged from using the TD Beach to Beacon 10K course on Saturday, the day the 23 annual road race had been scheduled.

Organizers canceled the race in May due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Cape Elizabeth Town Manager Matthew Sturgis says the town has caught wind of some runners' plans to run the course on race day anyway.

“We're looking for everybody to help us all in the battle against the spread of COVID-19,” Sturgis says. “You know there was a reason why the race was cancelled. That was in the abundance of caution to have people try to follow the best practices, as identified, by the CDC.”

In addition to COVID-19, Sturgis says there are concerns about the danger presented by traffic. He says there's also a lack of parking in the area.
