Mideast Conflict Raises Concerns at 'Seeds of Peace' Camp in Maine

OTISFIELD, Maine (AP) _ A summer camp in the Maine woods is hosting counselors and campers from throughout the Middle East who say fighting back home is making for a summer of tearful calls from their families and unlikely friendships.

Seeds of Peace in Otisfield has brought together children from countries at war for more than 20 years. The counselors include Israelis, Palestinians and Egyptians, most in their early 20s.

A group of 180 international campers in their mid-teens arriving at the camp next month will include Israelis and Palestinians.

Counselors say they all are united by a fear of the violence raging in the Middle East and a hope their generation will be the one to end it.

Chicago-based Hands of Peace operates a similar camp.
