wikicommons

YORK, Maine (AP) _ The federal government is again extending the deadline for bidding on New England's tallest lighthouse.

The auction of the Boon Island Light Station off York, Maine has been extended until Sunday morning.

There's been something of a bidding war, with 13 bidders. The highest bid as of Saturday morning was $78,000.

The General Services Administration reserves the right to continue extending the auction.

The lighthouse dates to 1855. It includes a 133-foot tower on a small island about six miles off the coast.
