Maine Power Outages Down to About 29,000

PORTLAND, Maine — More than 29,000 Maine homes and businesses remain without power several days after a storm dropped more than a foot of snow in some areas of the state.

Central Maine Power Co. was reporting about 14,000 outages Wednesday morning, nearly 7,000 of which were in Knox County.

Emera Maine was reporting more than 15,000 outages Wednesday, most in Hancock and Penobscot counties. Emera says some Hancock County customers may not get their electricity back until late Friday.

The power losses forced some Maine communities to change polling places for Tuesday's election.

The Sunday storm is also being blamed for one death. State police say 28-year-old Danielle Moores, of Lubec, lost control on Route 189 in heavy snow Sunday night, rolling her truck onto its roof. She died at the scene.
