Police Revise Account of Leeds Crash That Killed 2

LEEDS, Maine — Maine police say their investigation of a fatal traffic crash in Leeds has revealed that their initial account of the accident was incorrect.

The Dec. 30 accident killed 49-year-old Ghislain Cloutier and his 14-year-old son Casey Cloutier, both of Winthrop, when their car collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Ralph Ryder Jr. of Livermore.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Department says Ryder's vehicle crossed the center line and hit Cloutier's vehicle. The department initially said Cloutier's car crossed the center line.

The department says it learned of its error after reconstructing the accident, re-interviewing a witness and conducting other interviews. The crash is still under investigation. Ryder was injured and was released from the hospital on Dec. 31.
