Maine Groups to Receive Millions for Head Start

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Five Maine groups will receive nearly $13 million from the federal government to support early childhood education in the state.

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is providing the money to fund Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

    The organizations receiving funding are Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care in Lewiston, Aroostook County Action Program in Presque Isle, Midcoast Maine Community Action based in Bath, Penquis Community Action Program Inc. in Bangor, and Southern Kennebec Child Development Corporation in Farmingdale.

    Penquis is receiving the largest grant at more than $4.5 million.
