AUGUSTA, Maine - Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap has settled on the wording of this November's ballot questions on universal background checks, raising the minimum wage and legalizing marijuana.
Following comment from the LePage administration on proposed wording, Dunlap also replaced the word "surcharge'' with "tax'' in a question about increasing taxes for a fund directly supporting public K-12 education.
The final wording asks Maine voters if they would add a 3 percent tax on individual Maine taxable income above $200,000 for the fund.
The text of each proposed bill is on the Secretary of States' Citizens' Initiatives website.
Dunlap says he received 185 comments about the five citizens' initiatives.
Voters in November will also consider authorizing a $100 million bond to nearly match $137 million in federal funds for infrastructure improvements.
