More Head Start Support Coming To Southern Maine

YORK, Maine - A southern Maine organization will receive more than $1.3 million from the federal government to beef up its support for low-income families.Republican Sen. Susan Collins and independent Sen. Angus King say York County Community Action Corporation will use the money for its Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The funding is coming through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

York County Community Action Corporation is a group that works to alleviate poverty in southern Maine by helping families and senior citizens. It administers programs such as Head Start, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program and Women with Infants and Children.

The senators say the money will allow the corporation to work with more people in the community on early education and developmental services.
