Drug Enforcement Agency Launches App For Anonymous Tips

LEWISTON, Maine - The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has released a new cellphone app where people can anonymously report suspected drug activity.

Officials say the Maine DEA app released Thursday allows agents to respond as part of an anonymous two-way conversation.

The app, created by developer tip411, uses technology that removes all identifying information from the sender before it reaches drug officials.

MDEA Director Roy McKinney says the agency receives about two dozen tips a month about suspected drug activity. He says many of those tips result in drug seizures and arrests.

The Maine DEA app is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The Sun Journal reports about a dozen people had installed the app by Thursday afternoon.
