Cain Outraises Poliquin in Reporting Period

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Emily Cain, the Democratic candidate vying for Maine's 2nd Congressional District seat, has raised more than $379,000 in the latest reporting period.

Cain outraised her Republican opponent, Bruce Poliquin, who announced Monday that he has brought in nearly $296,000 in the period that runs from April 1 to June 30.

But Poliquin has more cash-on-hand with more than $291,500 left. Cain's campaign said on Tuesday that she had more than $243,000 in her campaign war chest at the end of the quarter.

Cain and Poliquin are squaring off in November for the seat in Maine's vast rural district that is being vacated by Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud, who is running for governor.

The fundraising reports are due to the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday.
