Maine Gov.-elect Janet Mills is nominating the current finance director of the Attorney General’s office to be her commissioner of finance and administration. Mills says Kirsten Figueroa once served as deputy commissioner of finance and administration and that prepared her to work on a range of policy areas, including liquor and lottery sales and the implementation of the retail sale of marijuana.
"I think she can step into the job rather easily, readily," Mills says. "She is well equipped to do anything required of that position."
Figueroa says she is ready to take on the challenges of the position.
"I won’t talk about any experience I may or may not have with marijuana because by mom may be listening," she joked. "But I - routinely a chief financial officer in any organization now has to cover human resources, technology."
