Maine CDC Reports Another Death, 29 More Cases Of COVID-19

The Maine Center for Disease Control Sunday is reporting another death associated with COVID-19, a woman in her 80s from Somerset County. There have been 136 COVID-19 related deaths in the state.

The state CDC also reported 29 additional cases of the disease. There are now 501 active cases of COVID-19 in Maine. 

Health experts continue to track a number of outbreaks in York County, The number of cases related to a funeral held August 31 in the Sanford area has increased to 10. The event took place outdoors at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, with a reception at the Sanford American Legion Post 19.

Health officials say that some of the people who have confirmed cases of COVID 19 also attended a number of social clubs in the area, including the Sanford VFW, Lafayette Social Club in Sanford, Wolves Club in Sanford, Springvale Social Club, the Sanford Elks Lodge, and the Amvets Sanford Post 3.

The Maine CDC says anyone who may have been at those locations from about August 24 and on could have encountered the virus and should take precautions.

The next CDC briefing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
