The Maine Department of Corrections is suspending all visits to its facilities. That includes visits from family, friends and volunteers. In a written statement the Department said it is working on reducing or eliminating phone commission rates during this time.

Alternate reporting requirements for adult and juvenile probation clients have also gone into effect. In addition, home visits, site visits and field work performed by adult and juvenile probation staff have been suspended. The Prison Showroom in Thomaston has been closed. And beginning Wednesday, work release and community work programs will be suspended.

The Department says there are no confirmed or suspected cases of the new coronavirus within the state prison system.
