Maine is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 since Monday, the lowest daily tally since April 27. That brings the total number of cases to 2,819. No new deaths were reported.That's according to state health officials who say the total number of deaths in Maine remains at 101. Since the pandemic hit, 2,233 people have recovered from the disease, 44 more than Tuesday. That leaves 485 active cases, 35 fewer than Monday.
A total of 321 people have been hospitalized sometime during their illness, an increase of four overnight.
On Monday, Maine Gov. Janet Mills announced a further acceleration of the administration's reopening plan, which will allow restaurants in Androscoggin, Cumberland and York counties to join their counterparts statewide in serving indoor diners, within state health and safety guidelines, beginning June 17. Bars, tasting rooms, gyms, nail salons and several other businesses are also being allowed to reopen June 17.
The Maine Center for Disease Control announced Monday that beginning this week it will hold media briefings on the coronavirus on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only.
