This year has been declared the “Year of the Bird” to celebrate the passage of the Migratory Bird Treaty. We’ll hear from expert birders about the importance of the Migratory Bird Treaty and why Maine is an ideal spot for birders.

- Jeff Wells, author of “Birder’s Conservation Handbook” and a fellow of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. He has a Ph.D. in ornithology from Cornell University and is currently senior scientist for the Boreal Songbird Initiative, a nonprofit organization working toward the conservation of North America’s last great wilderness — the boreal forest.
- Adrienne Leppold, Ph.D., project director of the Maine Bird Atlas 2018-2022, produced by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
- Seth Benz, bird ecology program director, Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park. He is responsible for coordinating biodiversity research, conducting citizen science phenology and migration monitoring efforts, and developing bird ecotourism programs. He has held positions with national and Maine Audubon as well as Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.
