Deadline Extended for Essay Contest for Maine Inn

LOVELL, Maine - A woman who's giving her country inn in Maine to the winner of an essay contest is extending the deadline.

Janice Sage, owner of the 210-year-old Center Lovell Inn and Restaurant, is giving entrants an extra couple of weeks, requiring the 200-word essays to be postmarked by May 26 and received in Center Lovell by May 30. She plans to announce the winner on June 6.

Sage said previously that she expects more than 7,500 entries, meaning she'd receive more than $900,000 at $125 per entry.

Sage took ownership of the 210-year-old inn the same way - by winning an essay contest more than two decades ago. She says she plans to use the essay income for her retirement.
