Brenda Bettinson’s Ravensbrück Series

Brenda Bettinson’s Ravensbrück Series
Join us for a look into artist Brenda Bettinson’s Ravensbrück Series. Cordula Mathias, administrator of the Bettinson Art and Literary Trust, will present a slide show with information about the genesis of this series and its significance to the Bettinson oeuvre.
The Ravensbrück Series by the late Brenda Bettinson is a collection of 17 paintings created with acrylic paint and pencil on board, panel and fabric. Brenda was moved to create the works after she read Sarah Helm’s book, Ravensbrück: Life and Death in Hitler’s Concentration Camp for Women chronicling the brutal treatment and murder of the women imprisoned at the concentration camp.
Bettinson’s Ravensbrück Series is on view at The Holocaust and Human Rights Center in Augusta through September 5th. This group of works constitutes the last series created by the late painter. These emotionally charged paintings are on public view for the first time in Maine after having been shown at Pace University in April 2024.
