Timothy Burris | Noonday Concert Series Online
Timothy Burris will demonstrate the contrasting styles of The Five Preludes of Heitor Villa-Lobos, with brief excerpts of each. He will perform Prelude Nr 3 in its entirety, a piece Villa-Lobos described as a Homage to Bach. The Preludes were published in 1940 and are the last works for classical guitar by Villa-Lobos. They display a remarkable variety of topoi (topics).
Timothy Burris has performed throughout Europe and the US, both as a soloist and an accompanist. His instruments include the Baroque guitar, lute and theorbo.
He has appeared in concert with such esteemed artists as the mezzo Jennifer Lane and the keyboardist Robert Hill, as well as under the baton of Peter Schreier and René Clemencic, among others.
Tim taught lute for six years at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp, and currently teaches at Colby College and the Portland Conservatory of Music (Maine). He has a Ph.D. from Duke University and a soloist’s diploma from the Royal Conservatory, The Hague.
