EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine (AP) _ An auction was held in June for equipment from the Great Northern Paper mill in Millinocket. Now it appears that there's going to be another auction for contents of the East Millinocket mill, the newer of the two.
A judge cleared the way for Northern Construction Services to hold the auction on Oct. 15 when GNP officials failed to pay $242,000 within three months. A lawyer representing the Glenburn company posted a public notice about the auction, which covers the land, the building and the fixtures.
The town's tax collector says GNP land and property has an estimated value of more than $16 million.
A spokeswoman for the company that manages the mill and the lawyer for the mill have not commented on the situation.
