Group Pushing for National Park in Maine to Hold Telephone Town Meeting

The group that hopes to create a national park and recreation area in Maine's North Woods is holding a telephone town hall meeting tonight. Callers will be able to dial in and ask questions about all aspects of the proposals.

On the line answering them will be Lucas St. Clair, who has been managing the campaign to develop a national park and recreation area on land owned by his mother, Roxanne Quimby.

"The telephone town hall would give us an opportunity to talk with potentially thousands of people at once, to answer their questions, to describe the park and to correct any misinformation that's out there," says David Farmer, spokesman for Eliotsville Plantation Inc, the nonprofit that oversees Quimby's land holdings.

Last week, more than 200 Maine businesses from around the state endorsed the proposed, 150,000-acre park and recreation area.

The town hall begins at 7 p.m. The phone number to take part is 207-228-1820.
