Freeport Families Urged To Update Vaccines In Wake Of Whooping Cough Outbreak

Twelve cases of pertussis have been confirmed at Freeport High School, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control.RSU5 Superintendent Becky Foley sent a letter to parents this week about the outbreak, urging families to make sure their vaccines are up to date.

Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory illness also known as whooping cough.  Maine's rate for the disease is eight times the national average.
