Poll: Maine's Two U.S. Senators Among Nation's Most Popular
AUGUSTA, Maine - A new poll by the Morning Consult finds that Maine's two U.S. senators are among the most popular in the country, while Gov. Paul LePage's favorability is as high as it's ever been.
The poll of more than 770 Maine voters found that 67 percent of respondents viewed Republican Sen. Susan Collins and independent Sen. Angus King favorably.
It's a slight dip for Collins and a slight jump for King since the Morning Consult polled Mainers last summer.
The poll released in September poll marked a low point for Gov. LePage, when 58 percent of respondents viewed him unfavorably compared to 39 percent approval.
LePage is still among the least popular governors in the country - in the ballpark with Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, who resigned Monday amid a sex scandal. But the poll released Tuesday suggests LePage has rebounded after a 2016 marked by several controversies, including racially-charged comments and leaving an obscenity-laced voicemail for a state lawmaker.
According to the poll, 48 percent of Mainers now approve of LePage and 49 percent disapprove.
