Deadline Nears For Maine Voters To Request Absentee Ballots

Election day isn't until next Tuesday, Nov. 6, but there are a couple important deadlines for voters later this week. Thursday of this week is the deadline to request an absentee ballot for next Tuesday's election. Thursday is also the deadline for in-person absentee voting at town and city clerk's offices.

Any registered voter can vote absentee, either by mail or in person at their town or city clerk's office. Maine also offers in-person absentee voting, up until the Thursday before election day.

Mainers who aren't registered to vote can also register anytime in person, including on Election Day at the polls.

Absentee ballots have to be returned to voters' town or city clerk's offices, by 8 p.m. on Election Day, whether that's by mail, or in person.

The Maine Secretary of State's Office says it looks as if as many - if not more - people will vote absentee this year than did for the last election for governor, in 2014.
