Maine lawmakers are going to consider a pair of bills that propose to end daylight saving time in the state.
The two bills are proposed by Democratic lawmakers and take different approaches to eliminating the time change. Rep. Chris Kessler of South Portland's bill would move Maine into the Atlantic time zone, which would mean the state would no longer set clocks back in fall.
Rep. Donna Bailey, of Saco, has proposed keeping Maine in Eastern Daylight Time all year provided the federal government eliminates daylight saving time nationwide. Florida passed a similar bill.
A hearing is scheduled for both on March 11.
Both bills would allow Mainers to move clocks an hour forward in the spring and never change them back. Kessler calls daylight saving time "craziness."
