Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King says the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump must be centered around collecting facts."I feel, as a person who is going to have to make a decision here as to whether or not the president took actions that are impeachable, the first thing we need to know is what exactly did he do, what was his intention in doing so?”
King says while there has been lots of discussion around procedure, what's most important is that senators get all of the facts, whether from testimony, depositions or documents.
“Whether or not the House should have done more - should they have followed subpoenas, should they have gone to court? - that’s irrelevant, it seems to me, to those of us in the Senate who are going to have to vote yea or nay, guilty or nor guilty.”
King says the Senate has a responsibility to the American people to take the time needed to gather and evaluate all of the facts before voting on the House-passed impeachment resolutions.
