Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding
forbes.com

Kickstarter, indiegogie, gofundme and more, learn about the world of crowdfunding. Have you considered using a crowdfunding site to launch a business or fund your big idea? If so, how do you do it? How do you choose which projects to donate to? And how does a new Maine law change the crowdfunding landscape? We'll discuss the pros and cons of crowdfunding with experts and those who have "crowd-funded" successfully.

When Kickstarter launched in 2009, the idea was to help creative people fund their projects. But since then, crowdfunding has come to emcompass much more. Now people use crowdfunding web sites to fund everything from documentary films to college tuition, restaurants to high-tech start up companies. Crowdfunding has become an increasingly mainstream way to raise money and it is exploding. In 2012, crowdfunding web sites raised 2.7 billion dollars... in 2013, that number almost doubled and crowdfunding web sites raised 5-point-one billion dollars. I'm Jennifer Rooks, today on Maine Calling, we'll learn about crowdfunding. If you have a project or business idea, how do you know if crowdfunding is right for you? If it is, what do you need to know? And what are the risks? Maine Calling taps into the crowdfunding trend.
