Dr. Haleh Esfandiari's talk was entitled "Challenges to Women's Empowerment in the Arab Awakening." She is the author of My Prison, My Home: One Woman's Story of Captivity in Iran, and will speak about women's contributions to the Arab revolutions and the challenges they face in the political, social and economic arenas.
Dr. Haleh Esfandiari is an Iranian-American scholar and Director of the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars. She is also the former deputy secretary general of the Women’s Council of Iran.
